The Commercial Invoice is prepared by the exporter to validate the ownership and payment issues. It is the valid document used by foreign customs agencies for appraisal and duty determination. The document or commercial invoice addresses the transported goods, shipping transaction matters, the country of manufacture, and the harmonized System codes for those goods. The end of the invoice provides the certified statement of the authorities with the terms that he or she hereby certify that the information on this invoice is correct and that the contents of this shipment are just as stated. Furthermore, a commercial invoice should certify the authenticity of the document via a stamp or signature.

In simple terms this documents narrates the exact value of the imported goods with relevant taxes and duties. A commercial invoice displays the name of the buyer and seller, with the mentioning of date quantity of the goods, weight and/or volume of the shipment, and settled terms and conditions. The packaging, calculation units, insurance terms, all applicable charges and other fundamentals are also listed in the commercial invoice clearly. Through a commercial invoice tariffs are calculated for international commercial and customs purposes.
